I have been trying to get Veterans United to recognize Disabled Veterans for property Tax purposes Ryley doesnt seem to understand that in the state of New Mexico they signed in there constitution Disabled veterans are exempt based on there percentage of disability they get that percentage off of there property tax. Example Im 80% disabled so I get 80% off my property tax. I have certification from the VA of that exemption and have uploaded to the VU's portal plus a 10,000 property tax exemption. I have filed these exemptions with the Valencia County Tax Assessors office. But the property tax is still on my loan documents. Fidelity Escrow here in New Mexico knows about this tax exemption but cannot do anything it until VU fixes loan documents.
Response from Veterans United
Hi Stephen,
First, I want to thank you for your service. I’m truly sorry for the frustration this situation has caused.
I can understand how upsetting it must be to have submitted your VA disability documentation and county exemption paperwork, yet still see property taxes reflected in your loan documents. When you’ve taken the proper steps with the VA and the county assessor, you should feel confident the information is being handled correctly.
Property tax exemptions, especially those tied to disability ratings, can involve coordination between the county, escrow, and loan servicing, but that does not make it any less frustrating when things do not appear to reflect what you’ve already provided. I’m sorry this has felt like an ongoing battle.
I would really like the opportunity to personally review your file and better understand what’s happening with the documentation and escrow setup. Please reach out to me directly at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@vu.com. The Client Advocate team is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. If you contact us outside those hours, we’ll typically respond the next business day.
You’ve done your part, and you deserve clear answers. I appreciate you bringing this forward and would welcome the chance to help get clarity around it.
Sincerely,
Claire S., Client Relations Manager

Great company! Very professional and walked me through the home buying process with ease !
Veterans United made the entire process so easy. It was such a wonderful experience.
This whole process from start to finish was made SO much easier and at no time did I not know what to expect or what was expected of me.
My loan was small and ultimately throughout the loan process we did not feel that our loan was worth the loan team' time. We (myself and my realtor's team) were constantly having to reach out, often multiple times to obtain updates. The team would provide an estimated close date and that day would come and go without an update. My loan officer in particular was not great regarding follow-up for things that actually impacted payment. My loan was impounded despite the fact that I was asked to put 25% down, instead of 20% When I asked whether we could remove the taxes and insurance from the monthly payment, my loan officer said he could probably have them waived, but there was never follow-up and in the end the loan was impounded. Frustrating experience. I am told that Veterans United is overall very good and that my experience may be limited to my particular team.
Response from Veterans United
Hey Michael,
I’m really sorry to hear that your experience left you feeling like your loan didn’t receive the attention it deserved. I can understand how discouraging it must have been to have to keep reaching out for updates and to see closing dates pass without communication. You should never feel overlooked—no matter the size of your loan.
We always want every borrower to feel valued and informed throughout the process, and I’m sorry that wasn’t your experience this time. Your feedback helps us see where we can do better, especially when it comes to timely follow-up and clear communication around payment details. I’d really like for my Client Advocate team to review your experience and make sure your concerns are fully understood. You can reach us at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@vu.com.
We’re available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time and will follow up the next business day if you reach out after hours.
The whole team was very helpful.
The veterans united team has been extremely helpful. They walked me through every step all the way up to closing. I couldn't have purchased my home if it wasnt for such an amazing group of people.
Using Veterans United was easily the best decision we could have made during our home buying process. Everything was stream-lined and their interface online was user friendly and fool-proof. 10/10 recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to use their services!
Our loan officer, Matt Istwan, was awesome. He went over & beyond all expectations we had. Matt was always professional, courteous, and knowledgeable during the entire process. I can't thank Matt enough for his help with financing our home, he made such a difference during a very stressful home search.
Veterans United has continued to be there for us and have done exactly as they said they would from the start. I would 100% recommend Veterans United.
Jerry and his team were outstanding throughout the whole process. Highly recommend.
